Chapter 8:
Griff hears the howl (with Annie Girard) I’d like us to take a moment to think about inspiration. Not the things that inspire us. Not out mentors or memories that drive our artistic nature. Not THEE- inspiration. Your mother. That one director. Not them. But the feeling being inspired. The fire of joy lit by the beauty of the world. The feeling of newness. The pop of perspective, showing a path you hadn’t before suspected. The fantastical become tangible. If jay-z can do it, I can do it. Those beautiful miraculous angels around us that, not only inspire us to create more new beauty that has yet to become, but also create for themselves. We are all made of the same stuff. There isn’t anything standing in the way of you creating something beautiful for this world. The howl is a call of inspiration. A call of hope from one artist to another: Don’t stop. It’s worth it.

“Thank you for taking the time to read this review. I want you to know, this isn’t one of your ‘ironic good reviews.’ I’ve seen the flood of positive reviews for this product, and yes, I’ll cut your internal monologue right now before you finish your presumptuous thought process, I do get the joke. I’ve observed the absurdity, and though I did not chuckle, I can recognize the importance of so many people coming together to collaborate on and celebrate one single joke. However, it is in this context that I find my predicament that much more frustrating. I am a writer. I won’t condescend to you by telling you my name, or the title of my published work. You know you’ve never heard of me just like I know somebody who would make the mistakes you make doesn’t read. Your package arrived on my front doormat a yesterday, almost precisely a month and a half after I placed my Amazon order. If I was a less organized individual and didn’t have my affairs in order I might have even forgot about the order I placed. No, instead, I was counting the days, literally, because, to whom it may concern, I am a person who is keeping score. When I opened the package, revealing the shrink-wrapped contents- this clear Trojan’s Horse within it’s box- I observed that it was covered in Japanese writing. I found this to be a bad omen, and sure enough, it immediately came true as I tore the plastic open to reveal my prize. This satire before me, what I was expecting to be a shirt adorned with majestic wolves howling their truth to our lunar mother was instead a peeling, screen-printed mess. Now, I bring your attention back to the gallery of ‘sarcastic’ reviews for your product and invite you to see them through my eyes. Mocking, chiding, cackling from their pretentious, insincere, vantage point. I ask you, why would you continue listing this product when your entire customer base is operating a false advertising campaign on your behalf and as long as I can finish this review before the Xanax whisks me to sweet, dreamless slumber, I will finish this review and have my dayyyyyyyyyyyy”
