10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) Review | The Hollywood Redux Podcast | Redux Reviews
The Writers’ Room summer of movies continues! Though pretty action-packed, 10 Cloverfield Lane is still a lively change of pace from its current movie peers, with an interesting, fully realized story, and more psychological thrills than out and out destruction (though there is some o’ that too).
The movie benefits from its small, well-cast trio of actors who offer real performances in service of a solid script from the Bad Robot stables. John Goodman as antagonist is the most compelling, playing the best of his flavors from persnickety, to puppy dog, to psychotic. Those excited to see Clover clawing around buildings again will be disappointed, but may find themselves hooked by the story, regardless, or stay in their seats to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s stone cold badass character unleash hell on man and beast.
