The Hateful Eight (2015) Review | The Hollywood Redux Podcast | Redux Reviews

The Hollywood Redux Podcast spends yet another holiday in the company of auteur director Quentin Tarantino via his special Event Roadshow presentation of his new film, The Hateful Eight. In this first episode of the show’s third season, we discuss the event presentation of the movie and our experience watching in glorious Ultra Panavision 70 mm.

Here’s to a new season of the show, a new year, and a new Tarantino story for every holiday in 2016.

In our review of the Pulp Fiction director’s latest, we focus on what we love most about his work – the characters. Say what you want about the ethical code (or lack thereof) of these characters, at the very least they’re all interesting, quirky, and different from other more bland writing.

This was the first movie we’ve seen since Star Wars and the difference in how much the characters lived and breathed on screen was vivid. In The Hateful Eight, the weight of each personal history was felt throughout, rather than described. We also loved the different look and feel of the film compared to current fare. The 70 mm captured a massive canvas that was more real than anything a computer could conjure.
