IGL Podcast is rectifying souls this week in Dark Souls III, a new RPG from series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki for PS4. The gameplay design is similar to Dark Souls II where players are equipped with a variety of weapons including bows, fire bombs and other explosives,  and a lot of badass greatswords to obliterate enemies, plus shields.

Throughout the game, players encounter different types of enemies, each with different behaviors.   The game puts more focus on role-playing and features an expanded character builder. The game features fewer overall maps than the previous Dark Souls, but the new maps are larger with more detail and more playable areas. It’s brutally hard – Tim discovers that you die a lot. He’s logged a lot of gameplay so far and in that time he has seen this screen so much:

The story of the game centers around the Kingdom of Lothric, the First Flame is responsible for prolonging the Age of Fire which is in danger of going out. Naturally, the undead accompany the Age of Dark, rising up out of the earth. Your hero i s one of the Lords of Cinder, who works to prolong the Age of Fire by linking the fires, a ritual in which other heroes sacrifice their souls for the First Flame. You play as the last remaining Lord of Cinder along with an undead known as the Ashen One who rises to prevent  apocalypse brought about by the endless conflict between fire and dark. Your and the Ashen One must return the Lords – four endings are possible based on the player’s actions during the game! It’s a lot of souls both dark and light.
